Up to $9k off used EV/PHEV
I was casually scrolling Facebook Marketplace when a post practically shouted:
“Up to $9,000 OFF a 2015 Chevy Volt Plug-In Hybrid!”
The price listed? $3,995.
“Too good to be true,” I could hear my dad’s voice saying in my head.
But… what if it wasn’t?
I started researching—and what I found could save you thousands too, if you act fast. With a combination of the federal IRS rebate and the Oregon Charge Ahead rebate, I walked away with a plug-in hybrid for less than the price of some e-bikes.
Here’s how I did it—and how you can too.
🚗 What’s the Deal with Plug-In Hybrids (PHEVs)?
Unlike a regular hybrid, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) runs on electricity and gas. My 2015 Chevy Volt goes about 34 miles on a full battery charge—perfect for daily errands—and switches to gas for longer trips, giving it over 200 miles of total range.
The best part? You don’t even need a fancy charger. A standard wall outlet (110V) works overnight. But if you’re in a hurry, many cities offer free Level 2 charging stations (check out ChargeHub).
In my case, our local utility offered a $1,500 rebate for installing a 240V charger. I found a local company that installed one for exactly $1,945—net cost: $495 (except electricity).
🔧 Pro Tip: Get a Pre-Purchase Inspection
When buying any used car — electric or gas — it’s highly recommended to have it inspected by a **qualified, independent mechanic** before finalizing the sale. This helps you avoid costly surprises and ensures you’re making a sound investment.
💸 The IRS Used EV Tax Credit (Expires Sept 30, 2025!)
The IRS currently offers up to $4,000 off a used electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle if purchased from a licensed dealer. But here’s the kicker:
✅ The ability to apply the credit at point of sale disappears after September 30, 2025.
That means less than 2 months to take advantage of this massive incentive.
Key eligibility points:
– Vehicle must be at least 2 years old
– Must be bought from a licensed dealer
– Buyer income caps apply (generally < $75K single / $150K joint)
– Vehicle must cost under $25,000

🌲 Oregon’s Charge Ahead Rebate (Up to $5,000)
If you live in Oregon and qualify based on income, you can get up to $5,000 off a used plug-in hybrid or EV, thanks to the Oregon Clean Vehicle Rebate Program. You may be eligible for the Charge Ahead Rebate if you qualify as a low- or moderate-income household, depending on income and household size. You can check your income eligibility here.
How it works:
– Submit your rebate application within six months of purchase or lease date. OR Apply before you shop to get a voucher
– Voucher is valid at participating Oregon dealerships
– Vehicle must be at least 2 model years older than the current calendar year
Start the process: https://www.oregon.gov/deq/aq/programs/Pages/Charge-Ahead-Rebate.aspx
If you do not qualify based on income, then consider the Oregon Clean Vehicle Rebate Program. The Standard Rebate provides up to $2,500 toward the purchase or lease of new, eligible zero-emission vehicles. All Oregon residents, businesses, nonprofits & government agencies are eligible to receive a Standard Rebate. There are no income requirements for the Standard Rebate.
⚠️ Warning: Turnaround time can be 3–4 weeks, though mine came in less than 1 week. Still, don’t delay—funds are limited!

| Dealer Price | $12,500 |
